HERE WE GO AGAIN!
We are back at Seidman Cancer Center for another round of chemo.  We feel like "old pro's" getting here at 8:00 a.m. Monday, getting checked in, getting the PICC line in place, getting unpacked, greeting some of the doctors and nurses like old friends! Marcie knows where to buy the best chocolate and how to navigate the long walk to the main cafeteria. :)
The last 2 weeks have been relatively peaceful.  Don started to feel better the Tuesday after finishing the last round of chemo, just as we anticipated, and he was feeling pretty good this past weekend.  He worked the last 2 weeks of June and was blessed to be able to do that.
Last Monday we met with our wonderful oncologist, Dr. C. and received a "mixed bag" of news.  The cancer numbers had gone down slightly - from a 1.9 to a 1.6 - so that is a good start and at least it is heading in the right direction.  However Dr. C. does not think we will be ready for the transplant in August.  She thinks we may have to do one to two more rounds of this 96-hour protocol of chemo in August and maybe even again in September.  That was a bit discouraging so we shed a few tears and then we talked it through and prayed it through.  Once again we gave our expectations about timing to the Lord.
We want you to know how grateful we are to those who follow the blog.  It is VERY encouraging when you tell us that you read it and pray for the requests we post.  Please let us know how we can pray for you as well.

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT THE BODY OF CHRIST
One of the most important lessons that we have learned through this trial over the last eight months (has it really been that long?) is how beautiful the Body of Christ really is.  All who are Christ-followers are part of this wonderful Body.  Everyone has a place in this Body.  In fact, because of your family background, your personality and all the things that make you YOU, there is an expression of Christ through you that has not been duplicated by any other human being. Furthermore, you bring a unique expression of Christ to the places that you go and the people you meet.
If you have ever wondered if you are important to God, the answer is a resounding YES!  His word declares that you are LOVABLE, VALUABLE, FORGIVABLE, CHANGEABLE and NEVER ALONE.

PRAYER REQUESTS
  • That this round of chemo would be be effective in putting the cancer in remission and we will see the cancer protein number of less than 1 sooner than the doctors believed possible!
  • That Don will continue to bear the chemo with minimal side effects and that his immune system would recover quickly.
  • That he would be protected from any infection.
  • For Marcie as she travels back and forth to the hospital.
PRAISES
  • For the Body of Christ who have so generously met all of our needs!
  • That Don's immune system (the "good" counts) recovered so strongly after the last round of chemo.
  • We celebrated Don's 60th birthday on Father's Day, June 17th, and he received numerous birthday cards.  What a blessing! We thank God for every single day of life he gives us.
Love,
Don and Marcie

  1. Don/Marcie - we continue to pray for the specific items you list and follow your blog. As a cancer survivor of almost 3 years, my heart goes out to you. Many prayed for me and the Lord gave me a "peace that passes understanding" (Phil 4:7). It is my hope that you feel this peace too.

  2. I'm frustrated with the timing also, but we all know God has the big picture in His mind and control, and so we wait on Him and trust some more. Love you both and blessed to walk this journey beside you.

  3. I WILL pray per your requests AND as I am learning to pray...."Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

You words here are like an echo of what I've heard lately in the middle of our power outages & recovery from storm damage--"How beautiful the Body of Christ"!

I believe He is visibly "perfecting" us all; shaping us by things we would never anticipate or choose...

  4. I am praying for you Don and Marcie!! You 2 are amazing and a true testament to the Christian faith. You both amaze and inspire me. God does have the whole picture and what I am beginning to learn in my personal life the past year is how we have to surrender. I struggle with that lack of control. You inspire me and I can't help but say 'If Don and Marcie can surrender themselves to Him....so can I!' Please know that even though I don't know you both personally, I pray for you daily and read your blogs. Your blogs have have taught me more than you'll ever know-more than I can ever say. THANK you both...from the bottom of my heart! Don...you are AMAZING! JUST AMAZING!

My prayers are with you, Marci, your children and grandchildren.
May God continue to bless and heal you!

  9. Wow, you just never realize what God KNOWS we can handle. And in this case what YOU 2 can handle. It is overwhelming to think about what you are experiencing and yet, you are able to press on and you do so because you believe inside the very core of yourself that Lord's love is bountiful, his presence is always and his strength is ever constant. You are both tremendous servants and disciples. Our prayers are always. Thanks for taking the time to update the blog. Love to you both.

  10. Love Rebecca's comments,....."On earth as it is in heaven"...we pray this for you, Don. There is no cancer in heaven. So we proclaim no cancer in you, as it is in heaven. You and Marcie are amazing warriors of the Kingdom. With our hearts and with our faith we stand with you for miraculous healing to be manifested in your body. We pray in the meantime your spirits would be encouraged and uplifted and that the Presence of the Holy Spirit would be tangible and heavy in your room as you go through this round of chemo. We pray for the love of Jesus to saturate you both, that you would feel His love and grace carrying you in this time.

  11. Don - It has been years since I saw you on the plane to Chicago for the Chicago Marathon. I only recently was made aware of your situation and found this blog site. I have only read bits and pieces but enough to know that i am totally in awe of how you and Marcie are handling all you are both going through. I know that your faith shines through your entire being -- a gift I always admired about you ever since I met you when we both shared an office at Agape. I have added you to my daily prayer list and I hope to get in touch with you if that is possible.
